June -
The Vasquez Rocks Survey Mission was uneventful. One USS Angeles FLEET member joined us.

James Jones and Chris Esquivel participated in a Hidden Frontier Trek episode - STAR TREK:Odyssey. Chris is a regular contributor/Staff with Hidden Frontier. For this participation, he worked as the sound technician and Video/Camera Operator. I had speaking parts which covered a half dozen scenes.

Hidden Frontier's website is: http://hiddenfrontier.com
The episode is currently in post-production.

July -
The Vasquez Rocks Survey Mission deviated from the usual path and followed a different trail. See photos at http://furystalon.com
Select Missions Logs and click on July Vasquez Rocks Mission

James Jones confirmed his willingness to help out with volunteer work at the next Trek Expo. The Expo is scheduled for the month of October in Hollywood, California.

James Jones participated in the S.T.A.R Programs monthly Skype Conference Call Bridge meeting. He announced that the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP), http://sfoep.org, has the required 10 active SFI members and is now ready to officially join S.T.A.R.
LTJG Anthong Dowling is currently drafting up the required paperwork. If all goes well the OEP will be able to participate in FEMA's National Preparedness Month this September.

James Jones is currently studying for the Technician Class Ham Radio license. His test date is still TBD, but should occur mid-late August. At which time, he'll be FCC licensed to operate Radio equipment that can transmit and receive in all allotted VHF and UHF frequencies.

The 32nd MSG is currently running a Personal Weather Station that is based in Inglewood,

Ca. All data collected from the Ambient Weather WS-1080 Wireless Home Weather Station is automatically sent to Weather Underground (One source used by the National Weather Service for their daily reports) and PWS Weather.

Our mission to Vasquez Rocks was successful.

Summary: Survery Mission via the northern.

In Attendance was:

Myself, Nikki, and Tavarus

The Report:

The 32nd has completed three additional Survey Missions of Vasquez Rocks
(Star Trek Filming site). The January mission was to get a feel for the
general area. February was the month of Geocaching. Though we did not find
the hidden cache (the battery to our GPS unit gave out as we were within
meters of the posted coordinates) we still had an enjoyable fact learning
experience.

The March survey mission netted the unit two finds: Fresh Mountain Lion
tracks and a lone adult hare, no doubt eluding the Mountain Lion. The April
mission (4/4/2010) will bring us a better sense and lay of the land.
However, this time we will have walking sticks - aid with the uneven terrain
and protection (The walking stick has a built-in long Katana blade).

Visit http://furystalon.com and select Missions Log to view our photo survey
of Vasquez Rocks.

This particular two month period has been relatively quiet. Work in TRACOM
R&D is moving along steadily. The initial batch of projects has been
completed before deadline. The new batch of work, unfortunately, will miss
the deadline by a week or more.

In late March I donated blood to Cedars-Sinai Hospital through Apheresis
(http://library.med.utah.edu/WebPath/TUTORIAL/BLDBANK/BBAPHER.html). With this process, my blood is separated into four components: Plasma, Platelets,
Leukoctytes, and Red Blood Cells.  I am fortunate enough to have blood that
is absent of Marco viruses. As a result, my donation, as told to me by a
resident nurse, may be used by newborns.

A co-worker and friend, who is also the lead singer to a local band (Heavy
Popeye) has graciously allowed the 32nd MSG to use one of their songs,
royalty free, as our theme music. Their Facebook URL:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Heavy-Popeye/139840808575?ref=ts

The new 4th Brigade website has been up and running for over a month now.
The URL: http://4thbrigade.com/ Other than a few minor glitches the site is
poised to perform its primary goal: Information gathering and disseminating.
Completed an Article about the 32nd MSG, the reason behind the 32nd and
upcoming activities, for the USS Angeles' newsletter per Capt Dave Mason's
request.

32nd Feb BMR E-mail

We had to cancel the December Vasquez Rocks Survey Mission due to poor weather conditions. The night before and early that morning it rained. The conditions would have been wet, muddy, and cold. Then next survey mission is scheduled for January 17, 2010.

The 32nd started working with RC Cars. We assembled two MODX kits: Nissan 370 and 2010 Mustang. Testing was carried out successfully. January 10th is a scheduled day for running the vehicles through their paces. Location is at the Forum parking Lot (Inglewood California, corner of Manchester and Prairie).

Two members saw Avatar (3D IMAX) at the AMC Century City 15 Complex. The movie was well received and enjoyed.

Plans for a Laser Tag outing has been sent to the 32nd MSG list. Received positive feedback. Setting a tentative schedule for Feburary.

Two 32nd members will be seeing Avatar (3D IMAX) on the 5th of January 2010.

The 4th Brigade Comm site (Node 4) was completed in December. Announcement was made to the 4th Brigade and Region 4 mailing list. Site received some decents hits. Time will tell if site is viewed often and useful.

I completed the Office of Emergency Preparedness website and submitted the proposal of making it a STARFLEET office to the Region 4 RC and VRC, the 4th Brigade OIC and DOIC. The proposal was forwarded to STAR.

The website is: http://sfoep.org/

I tossed in my bid for the TRACOM R&D "illustrator" position and got accepted.

I also submitted several articles to the Communique and accepted Dave's (Communications Chief of the USS Angeles) offer of doing a regular column in Angel's Flight. The column will be titled, "Through the Looking Glass." The first article under that title is the 2009 LA AIDS Walk where Dave and I participated in.

The AIDS Walk organizers sent me a thank you email and said because I brought in over $100.00 ($187 actually) I would receive their gift pack: Cap, sports bottle, and AIDS Walk short Duffle bag.

I'm currently working on my ME-30 course; A Mecha with plans, specs, and an animation.

Jan 10th - Tavarus (future SFMC) and I got a good feel for working RC cars. He has the 2010 Mustang XMOD and I was running the Nissan 370.

Running the devices full throttle drains a standard set of AAA batteries (4) in about 30 - 40 minutes. The cars are small and thus drives best on decent concrete (sidewalks).

We plan on upgrading sometime in March 2010

Another idea is to mount a small Camera on the cars and record the entire drive experience.

Jan 17th is our monthly Vasquez Rock's survey mission. So far we have about 7 friends who will be joining us.

We are also looking into Geocaching. http://www.geocaching.com/

From the Geocache website: "Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment."

I'm looking into picking up a GPS Tracker,Garmin® eTrex Legend® H Handheld GPS Receiver, by this weekend.

Submitted a Collaboration Website for TRACOM R&D, http://tracom.tachyonnode.com/. This site is fully functional and focuses on project management, communication, and reveiw. If the site is accepted then I will start creating logins for both general access and Chat server access. If the site is not accepted I will transfer the concept over to a new project/idea.

The Jan 2010 survey mission to Vasquez Rocks was a success. We hiked down the Southwest trail and ended up at the "CHASM." I nice deep gorge with a few burnt trees. The weather was perfect and the hike itself was excellent. I tested out the new Lowrance Endura GPS tracker. It marked our entire trip to the Chasam and allowed us to follow the trail back to the base rocks.

Attended the USS Angeles Meeting. Our new CO is Dave Mason and the new XO is Janice Willcocks. RADM Chris Esquibel used a laptop, webcam, and ustream to broadcast our meeting to Angeles members who couldn't make the meeting. I gave a quick impromptu spiel about the 32nd MSG.

During the meeting, RADM Janice Willcocks suggested we have a Trek Summer Olympics. I volunteered to be part of the committee. I also approached Capt Dave Mason and offered my expertise in Information Technology to help with giving the Angeles website some added features. I sent Dave and Chris links and logins to the Collaboration site being evaluated by MGN Mike McGowen.

End of Report

32nd December BMR

Unit activities:

Finished working out the kinks to the http://furystalon.com website. It now has a working blog section for each Unit Project.

The Launching Vehicle platform and Hot Air ballon projects are on hold until the Windy season ends. The Launch location will be the Vasquez Rocks County Park area.

Participated in the LA AIDS Walk event. The 32nd MSG collected a total of $187.00 in donations for the USS Angeles Team. We plan on participating next year with the USS Angeles.

On October 17th, a future STARFLEET Marine attended a Stargate Universe viewing party. We watched the first four episodes.

The 32nd visited the Santa Monica Aquarium on the 25th of October. The youngest recruit, Nicholette, enjoyed herself thoroughly.

I attended the USS Angeles Annual Halloween Party, located at the home of USS Angeles Founder, Janice Willcocks. I dressed as a Roman Senator.

I attended the 4th Region Conference in San Jose, November 7th. After the conference we visited the Star Trek Exhibition, located at the Tech Museum.

The group attended the November Spirit of Star Trek session featuring John Billingsley (Dr. Phlox).

Our first Vasquez Rocks Survey Mission was successful. Besides the 32nd in attendance we had two friends and another future Marine join us. I gave a class in compass use and locating Grid North using the morning Sun. We did an introductory hike along the back part of the iconic rock formation. Dates for further surveying have been set.

Completed 3D modeling work on the unit's Standard Pilot suit (Nemesis configuration), the Frontier Suit, and two versions (MR-10 and MR-12) of the Unit's Medium Range Scout crafts called Jumpers. Sent a pic to AODE of the suit and MR-12 Jumper. Tech specs in development. Images of the WIP Frontier Suit and Jumper may be seen at the unit's website (http://furystalon.com) under the Unit Project Section.
